Cain’s Cut-Throats  | 1970 | USA | Ken Osborne

The only Western film to be considered problematic by the police, this exploitation classic has a few interesting folk in it like Scott Brady (Dead Kids, Gremlins) and cult hero John Carradine. In the 1860s, a retired Confederate captain lives in relative peace with his biracial wife and son Jody, until a band of his old followers who’ve turned to crime after the fall of the Confederacy, decide to take it personally when Cain no longer reciprocates their ideals. After Angie is raped, the gang decide to slaughter the whole family, leaving Cain the sole survivor. Embarking on a quest for vengeance and more, Cain takes a preacher called Simms and a prostitute named Rita on a bloodthirsty mission to get retribution for his family’s killing. The film contains some pretty punchy moments of graphic violence, but the rape scenes are likely what got this film listed erroneously as a video nasty in certain trade magazines, causing the police to take it when visiting the local dealers.
