Driller Killer | 1979 | USA | Abel Ferrara

Another poster boy for the whole scandal, the film gained notoriety when its distributor Vipco took out press advertisements showcasing the cover of the movie, showing a man having his forehead drilled into. Rather unrepresentative of the film itself, which is more of a dark satire of life in the city with our antihero Reno being slowly driven mad by the idiosyncrasies of his career and home life, only able to dispense his frustrations on homeless people, whom he kills by night with an electric drill. The advertisement furore alone got this film noticed and the DPP got an easy conviction.
