Prom Night | 1980 | Canada | Paul Lynch

Hot on the heels of the production of Halloween, Canadian director Paul Lynch began production on Prom Night, securing the leading role for scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis and penning a script set within the gloomy corridors of a high school. After a childhood accident results in the death of young Robin Hammond, four friends decide to swear themselves to secrecy about the truth, unaware that another party has witnessed the whole thing. As young adults, the Hamilton High prom night is imminent and the four friends gear themselves up for a night of passion and discovery, only to be taunted on the telephone by a husky-voiced stalker in the morning. One by one, the students fall prey to a balaclava-wearing attacker, leaving Kim Hammond, Robin’s surviving twin, to find out exactly who’s trying to wreck such an important life event. Much closer in style to Halloween with less emphasis on blood, the film was nevertheless targeted as a nasty and seized along with the others.
