The Living Dead | 1974 | Spain/Italy | Jorge Grau

Set in Great Britain, this Spanish gut muncher uses the living dead theme for a great showcase of gore and zombie FX. Hippie George encounters Edna, when she accidentally damages his bike. On their journey through the countryside, they encounter a new machine designed to kill insects with sonic radiation that has the unfortunate side-effect of bringing the recently dead to come back to life in a homicidal cannibalistic rage. Quite surprisingly gory considering it came out before Romero’s Dawn, it was nevertheless seized for these sanguine moments, which included a graphic disembowelment and a breast tearing.
