Unhinged | 1982 | USA | Don Gronquist

A much more melancholic and dark affair, this sleepy slasher from Don Gronquist follows a trio of friends who crash their car during a storm whilst heading to a concert. Ending up being looked after by a dotty matriarch and her put-upon daughter, the girls soon find that something is not quite right at the mansion which is being closely watched by a heavily breathing, scythe-wielding madman who prowls the property. Featuring a synth-heavy 80s soundtrack and a memorable twist ending, the film is actually rather tame when it comes to the violence. One can only assume that it was the melancholic tone of proceedings or the themes present that flagged danger to the DPP.
